Vanuatu Treasures [29-06-10]

Dad and I want to book a tour to the Cascades Falls after speaking with some other Tourists at dinner. The local Melanesian Lady in the “Vanuatu Treasures” Tour Office tells us not to take a tour “too much”, or a taxi “too much” but to take a bus-a van with a B on the number plate. 300 vatu per person (NZD5.00). “Where do we catch the bus?” Anywhere-just a van with a B!

The people of Vanuatu are quiet, honest and very friendly. We soon learn to feel safe and to trust them. Often they do not understand what we are saying. They do not try to sell us anything but are there to help us when we want to buy. They love soccer and support New Zealand. Crossing the street is a challenge. We look the wrong way - the traffic is on the right - We soon learn to dodge cars and find they stop and give way to us anyway - not like Rotorua. The weather is hot. The tourists - Australians and New Zealanders are happy. The pot holed roads take us on our adventures. We swim and snorkel. We make it to the Cascade Falls and back again by the B-Bus! The light across the Bay in Port Vila first thing in the morning and at dusk is spectacular. Still, calm, water. Boats coming and going.
